Emmanuel Children's Choral Academy
Providing the best musical opportunities of children is a top priority
at Emmanuel. The Emmanuel Children’s Choral Academy
is open to all children of Aquidneck Island and Jamestown from the
ages 8 to 14. Church membership is not required. Inspired
by the English Cathedral choir schools, the Choral Academy’s
mission is to teach children to sing the finest choral music to the
best of their ability, with understanding to its place and purpose
and to express the love and joy of God and Jesus Christ in their lives
and the lives of others through music.
The children rehearse on Tuesday afternoon’s from 3:45 during
the school term. There they are taught to sing with good technique,
to read music as well as learn how the music they sing is appropriate
to the liturgy. They learn the same hymns, service music and anthems
the Parish Choir sings. They participate with the Parish Choir every
Sunday adding to the wonderful sound of the soprano section.
The children have participated in the 2007 Chorister’s Festival
at St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City.
