“Boys’ Sports & Girls’ Paper Dresses”

An Emmanuel Memory of Byron Palmer, 1911 – 2001

When we were kids, the people next door (the Hills) were very active and they brought us to Emmanuel….I was baptized, confirmed, and married in this church.
…the Junior and Senior Algonkins (one team fed into the other) met in the gym and played in the old Church league….the old gym was the same as it is now—there was calisthenics, basketball…a fully equipped gym and a horse and everything else.  Percy Judge was there the whole winter to teach calisthenics.

I remember that every year they used to have a big pageant at Mrs. Harold Brown’s on Bellevue Avenue, and the girls had to have paper dresses and they supplied the patterns and your mother made the dress…and just woe betide you if it rained because they were made of crepe paper.
