Jack Allan and Emmanuel's Christmas Star

Simple Gifts:

As a boy growing up in Emmanuel Church, I was always impressed with the star displayed at a certain time at the midnight service on Christmas Eve. With the lights out and the people singing Silent Night, it was something to remember!

Someone told me it was make by a cousin of mine, Jim Gibson, who was a carpenter by trade and sang bass in the choir. Jim was deceased by this time.

As time passed the star became bent and worn. I, as a machinist Eppley Laboratory in Newport, decided to make a new one from sheet metal. This was around 1990. I had all the tools needed to do this and was glad to do it.

Now, my grandchildren can see the star too.
