Emmanuel's Pipe Organ

We are in the process of constructing this historical page on the pipe organ at Emmanuel Church, also eventually to include audio clips.  Here is a brief synopsis to whet your appetite.  The original, two manual organ of 16 stops was built by James Cole of Boston and installed in 1901 when the present church edifice was erected.  In 1929, Welte-Mignon, which evolved out of the W.W. Kimball Company, was commissioned to install a third manual – Choir division and from that time, the organ specification has remained essentially the same.

Following that, a number of different companies were involved in the organ’s upkeep, including on-going maintenance, overhauls and general reconditioning projects, such as a new console installed in the late 1960's, which was dedicated in concert by the one & only, E. Power Biggs, himself.  Mr. Biggs was a past organist of Emmanuel and we hope to document more of the important highlights of that time as well as the various organ projects in the coming months.

We appreciate your interest and ask your patience please, to check back with us.  Console stop jam photos are provided here to show the present Division Stops.  You may click on the photos for an enlarged view. AJH
