The Episcopal Diocese of RI has recently formed a companion relationship with the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana and established a sub-committee (LARI). The Diocese of Louisiana has made a commitment to the renewal of New Orleans, and especially to addressing some of that city’s most intractable problems of poverty and racism. LARI believes that we have a lot to learn about our own challenges here in Rhode Island by working with our brothers and sisters in Louisiana, and we are eager to share our enthusiasm for this ministry around the diocese. On May 18th, the Emmanuel Church Vestry formally adopted a two year parish companion relationship with St. Anna's Episcopal Church, 1313 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans, LA 70116. Our parishes will exchange parish information, prayers, parish photos, worship bulletins and establish a link to each other’s websites.
Also, the LARI subcommittee is seeking to bring teenage campers from New Orleans to the Episcopal Conference Center this summer. Connecting with youth from our two dioceses is one way to strengthen the bonds between us. On May 18th, the Emmanuel Church Vestry agreed to sponsor a teenage camper from New Orleans. If you would like to help us bring a little bit of Louisiana to ECC this summer, forward a check payable to Episcopal Diocese of RI, with "LARI ECC Scholarship Fund" on the memo and mailed it to 275 N. Main St., Providence, RI 02903. The fee to sponsor one camper is $700 but any amount is appreciated. Thank you for supporting this Emmanuel Church Outreach Ministry.
