Outreach
We value our active outreach ministry. We believe that God calls us
to bless others with that which God has blessed us. Our location in
the heart of Newport offers ample opportunity to do so within our
own community and beyond.
Emmanuel Church is a "ONE Congregation." We support the
efforts of ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History. We endorse and
support actively the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals
through our teaching, outreach, and financial giving. For 2007, the
vestry pledged 0.7% of our operating receipts to support organizations
that are working to accomplish the MDGs.
In addition, the people of Emmanuel are active in the community, reaching
out through various efforts, including Soup's On, the annual Crop
Walk, Lucy's Hearth, Spanish Ministry, Cell Phones for Soldiers, Seaman's
Church Institute and others.
Outreach projects include:
- Soup’s On
- Lucy’s Hearth
- The Annual Crop Walk
- Spanish Ministry
- Cell Phones for Soldiers
- Seaman’s Church Institute
- and many others ...
Members of Emmanuel also participate in an annual mission trip. In
April 2006, sixteen members of Emmanuel traveled to the Gulf Coast
of Mississippi to help with the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Katrina.
In April, 2007, sixteen members and friends spent a week gutting houses
in New Orleans as part of the post-Katrina cleanup effort.
