Lauren Benowitz - Violin Teacher

Miss Lauren received her BA in French and music (with violin concentration) from Connecticut College in 2001. Directly following graduation, she packed her bags for the north of France where she taught English in several elementary schools, and attended the Ecole de Musique de Bologne-sur-Mer. She was awarded the Ecole’s highest honor, la médaille d’or, in violin performance in 2002.

Upon return to the U.S., Lauren was hired as violin instructor at the List Academy in Newport, RI; the International Charter School in Pawtucket, RI; and the RI Philharmonic Music School in Providence, RI.

In the fall of 2003, Lauren decided to continue her music education, and completed the bulk of her major requirements towards her Master’s degree in viola performance at Yale University.

In 2004, she decided to return to Rhode Island, and to her first love of teaching the violin to children. In the summer of 2005, she received training in early childhood music education (Kodály method) from the Early Childhood Coordinator at the RI Philharmonic Music School.

Lauren has taught several early childhood music classes for the Philharmonic including The Paths to Music class (for ages 18 months-5 years), the Junior Choristers class (for ages pre-k through second grade) and the Instrument Sampler (for ages 6-9). She has taught the violin at the RI Philharmonic Music School for a total of four years and has taught group violin at Emmanuel Day School for the last two years. Lauren has a growing private violin studio in her Middletown home which she shares with her husband.
