Nancy Jamison
Nancy grew up in an Episcopalian Air Force family that moved frequently and settled in California, where she attended UC Irvine studying French and economics. She later earned a master’s degree in international management from the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies. After a career in global product development and finance at Visa International in San Francisco, she moved to Rhode Island to study marine affairs and ocean science at URI. As an avid scuba diver and dive master Nancy’s interests grew toward understanding and addressing issues concerning the world’s oceans. She was chosen for a Knauss Sea Grant Fellowship at the
U.S. State Department Office of Marine Conservation. Part of her duties included representing the U.S. at the United Nations’ annual ocean and fisheries negotiations and other international treaty organizations.
During this time Nancy met and married her husband, Steve McInnis, and returned to Rhode Island to settle in Newport. Steve learned to dive and Nancy learned to sail. They volunteer for all sorts of local sailing and water events and spend their summers on their sailboat, currently in Norway ready for next summer’s adventures. Nancy’s local conservation experience extends to the Aquidneck Land Trust where she was a board member and board chair and the URI Graduate School of Oceanography where she is a long-term advisor on the Dean’s council. Nancy is honored to be a part of the invigorating and welcoming Emmanuel Church community – awaiting our newly planted daffodils!
